How You Can Help

Financial gifts allow us to put funds where they are needed most.  Your employer might match your contributions, like MassMutual, Travelers, IBM, and Verizon do. The only way to find out is to ask. Some employers support their employees who volunteer in the community (such as MassMutual and Walmart) in special ways. We are a United Way charity, so you can donate through your workplace, too. Learn more about donating here.

Hold a Fundraiser or Party With a Purpose

In lieu of birthday gifts, some generous children in the Pioneer Valley have taken to asking for donations to TJOF! We are deeply touched by the letters and donations we receive this way. We also receive proceeds from tag sales, bake sales, car washes, and other events put on by families or groups of animal lovers in the community. These are fun ways to support shelter animals and introduce TJO to your neighbors.

Local businesses, schools, and other organizations have held donation drives and other charitable events and named TJO the beneficiary. For example, the Chicopee Arbors Assisted Living residential facilities donated $1,600 to TJOF which they raised through a craft fair. For more great fundraising ideas contact Melinda Thomas.

Wish List Drive

Many day-to-day items and a few “dream big” items are on the shelter’s wish list, which is updated regularly. We also have an Amazon wish list , for those who like to shop online and ship directly to the shelter.

Some schools groups and other organizations use our wish lists to hold donation drives for the animals. We appreciate these activities and thank you on behalf of the animals.

If you wish to do a pet food drive, please check our wish list as not all pet foods are appropriate for our shelter animals.

Get a pet friendly license plate

Proceeds from Massachusetts “I’m animal friendly” license plates help fund spay/neuter programs. TJO received a $10,000 grant from the Massachusetts Animal Coalition to help them sterilize every animal before it is adopted into a new home. Learn more here.

Strengthen animal protection laws

Animals need the law on their side, but they can’t vote. You can be their voice. Use these easy links to contact your representatives about today’s legal issues concerning animals. Learn more here.
